OCS Tips - Prepare for Windows 10
Windows 10 is here!

IS HERE....

Don't let this happen to you, call in the 'Pros'

If you have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 or better on your desktop or laptop, then Microsoft would have prompted to you reserve your free upgrade about a month ago. Assuming you did in fact reserve your free copy, but haven’t installed it yet then here’s a few tips to help you along.

  • BACKUP your data at the very least BEFORE doing anything else. You should also do a full backup of your existing Windows installation so you can put it back if things go horribly wrong or you don’t like the new O/S.   Read more...

  • TEST your hard drive to ensure there are no bad sectors prior to doing the upgrade. This kind of test is something you should be doing at least twice per year regardless, but definitely needs to be done before trying to install a major upgrade like Windows 10.   Read more...

  • CHECK your computer for malware and/or viruses before installing the new Windows 10 because this kind of unwanted software can cause all sorts of problems with the upgrade. You don’t want to have this stuff on your computer even if you aren’t doing an upgrade, it’s just nuisance software that many people don’t even know they’ve picked up.   Read more...

  • RUN CHKDSK on your C: drive to ensure the file system is clean before doing the upgrade. If your computer or laptop has been shutdown improperly in the past, this causes a ‘dirty’ filesystem that can cause all sorts of problems. Always backup your system BEFORE attempting this.   Read more...

Just click the bolded name for each step (or ‘Read more...’) and it will take you to a new page with detailed instructions on what to do along with download links for any software you will need to accomplish the task. You should be able to prep your computer or laptop yourself with just a little bit of work, or you can have the ‘pros’ look after this for you for only $49.00 + HST! Price includes free local pick-up & return delivery. Some conditions apply, limited time offer.
